A national protest was held Saturday called No Kings Day and the movement had a local footprint.

The “No Kings” theme was created by the 50501 Movement, a national organization made up of Americans who outline their goal as standing for democracy and against what they call the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration. The name 50501 stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement.

A military parade in Washington D.C. on Saturday marked the Army’s 250th anniversary, which coincided with President Trump’s birthday, and Flag Day.

Local organizers held their own No Kings Day People’s Parade in Washington. Citizens rallied on the sidewalks in Madison Park and next to City Hall. There were 125 people in attendance with signs that read “Dignity not deportations” and “The US has no King”.
