
The Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams dropped a Southeast Iowa Superconference set to visiting Louisa-Muscatine Friday night in Kalona. The Raven girls were beaten by a 13-5 score by the No. 2 Falcons. L-M scored in each of their first six at bats, and the Ravens kept pace early. L-M led 3-1 after one and 5-4 after two, but the Falcons added on with two more in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Hillcrest would get their final run in the fifth. The Ravens had eight total hits, including three doubles and drew a walk. It was a two hit night each for Morgyn Nafziger and Delaney Shaw. Shaw finished with two RBI, Nafziger scored twice. Malia Yoder also drove in a pair and Ella Mize one. Yoder and Mize handled the work in the circle, with 12 hits, five earned runs, four walks and a strikeout. The Ravens dropped to 4-8 with the loss while L-M climbed to 13-2.
The Hillcrest boys suffered a similar fate, 5-3. Things were scoreless through three. The Ravens broke through with a single run in the fourth and held that lead until Louisa-Muscatine tied it in the sixth. In the seventh, the Falcons posted four in the top half and the Raven rally brought home two but fell short. Hillcrest was out hit 10-5 in total and drew two walks, while giving up four. Mason Helmuth led with two RBI on a hit. Phoenix Anderson had an RBI double that brought home one. Rowan Miller put together a two hit night and scored a run. Miller worked all seven on the mound, giving up 11 hits, five earned runs, four walks and three strikeouts. L-M rose to 4-7 with the win, Hillcrest dropped to 4-3 with the loss.
