The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team fell at No. 5 West Liberty Thursday in a road River Valley Conference contest 7-3. The Hawks got on the board first with two runs in their first at bat when Sophie Miller and Kadence Grout connected on RBI hits that scored Elise Foster and Grout. The Comets responded with one in the bottom to cut the lead in half. Mid-Prairie added an insurance run in the fourth, capitalizing when Jersey Jergens doubled and then came home on a Comet error. Things stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth when West Liberty send 11 to the plate and scored six times on five hits and a Golden Hawk miscue to go up 7-3. Mid-Prairie was out hit 10-4 in the game. Each team drew two walks. Miller finished with two hits and an RBI, Grout had a hit, a run and an RBI, and worked a clean seventh in the circle. Alena Snider took the loss for the Golden Hawks with six innings, 10 hits, seven runs, four earned, two walks and a strikeout. Pearson Hall led West Liberty with two RBI, Mallory Wulf spun a complete game win with five strikeouts. West Liberty is now 6-2 on the year, Mid-Prairie falls to 4-5.
