The Keota Eagles edged out BGM baseball 4-3 Friday night for a conference win. Keota had the lead most of the night but saw BGM score three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game.
Fortunately, the Eagles rallied to score in the top of the seventh and held off the Bears in the bottom half of the inning to get the road victory. The win raises their record to 4-5, including a 2-5 mark in the South Iowa Cedar League.
Keota softball was not as lucky, ending up on the wrong end of a close 5-4 loss to BGM. The two teams traded runs through the first five innings, with the Eagles taking the lead in the fourth but seeing the Bears tie things back up in the fifth. Ultimately, BGM got the walk-off win in the seventh.
The loss drops Keota to 3-4, both overall and in conference play. The Eagles did get a victory Wednesday night over English Valleys, putting up three runs right away in the opening frame and cruising to a 9-0 win on the road.
Eighth-grader Jessalyn Aller had a huge night to lead Keota to victory. Aller hit two triples and a home run, finishing with two runs scored and four runs batted in, and she would also pitch a complete-game shutout where she rolled up 10 strikeouts and gave up only three hits and one walk.
Senior Lainey Swanson had a double as part of two hits and two runs scored for the Eagles, while eighth-grader Adyson Ahlberg smacked a double on her way to two RBI. Freshman Elyse Lyle added two runs scored on one base hit and a pair of steals. Both Keota teams next play Monday against Belle Plaine.
