Fireworks and sewer and water rates will be discussed by the Kalona City Council on Monday night.
An amendment to the city’s sewer rate ordinance for users of private water systems is on the agenda. Proposed changes include, setting a flat $60 rate for such sewer customers with an additional usage rate for commercial sewer customers on such systems.
The second is an amendment to the city’s firework ordinance in order to bring the city’s code in line with a state law going into effect on July 1. The state change requires cities to allow fireworks on July 3, July 4 and December 31.
Both ordinances passed their first readings at the council’s June 2 meeting.
Monday’s meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Kalona Community Center.
