
In a tightly contested Southeast Iowa Superconference baseball contest Thursday in Winfield, the Hillcrest Academy Ravens were road winners over Winfield-Mt. Union 3-2. Hillcrest got on the board first with two in the opening frame. The Wolves answered with a run in the second to cut the lead in half, and tied it with another in the fourth. Things stayed that way until the seventh, when the Ravens scratched out one, and held the Wolves scoreless through the bottom half for the victory. WMU doubled up Hillcrest in hits 8-4. The Ravens drew five walks to the Wolves three. Rowan Miller had a two hit day for Hillcrest. Mason Helmuth and Liam Schrock also had an RBI each. Schrock, Rowan and Lincoln Miller each scored once. Phoenix Anderson threw a complete game with seven hits, two earned runs, three walks and six punchouts.
Winfield-Mt. Union had two hit nights each from Kohbly Newsom, Riley Kaalberg and Trevor Phillips. Phillips and Gavin Prior each had an RBI. Kason Dopler threw six innings with three hits, one earned run, four walks and six strikeouts. The Ravens run their record to 4-2 while WMU drops to 2-7.
