lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree Lions rolled up an impressive 14-0 win over Springville on the baseball diamond Wednesday. Lone Tree scored 11 times in the second inning alone and ended the game after five frames.

Sophomore Brock Nebergall led the Lion lineup with two hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in from the lead-off spot, while junior Emmett Burke smacked a triple on his way to scoring once and driving in a pair.

Senior Brody Magruder smacked a double and scored a run for Lone Tree, while sophomore Cole Walmsley picked up an RBI to go with a base hit and scoring twice. Senior Jack Patterson added one hit and two runs scored, while sophomore Owen Eden finished with a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Jacoby Moffitt would score three times and Eden would pitch all five innings, yielding six hits and three walks while also collecting five strikeouts. Unfortunately, the Lions would not be able to make it back-to-back wins, as they lost last night to West Burlington 24-9.

Lone Tree scored two runs in each of the first four innings and was keeping pace in a back-and-forth slugfest, but six runs in the fifth and nine in the sixth by West Burlington put the game out of reach. The loss means the Lions now have a record of 3-7.

Lone Tree softball had the same bad luck last night, falling to West Burlington Notre Dame 8-2. Three runs yielded in the first inning meant the Falcons led from the start, and the Lions would only get single runs in the first and third frames.

Senior Kayleigh Rundlett had a double as part of two hits and a run scored for Lone Tree, while sophomore Addison McCullough came up with two runs batted in on a pair of base hits. Senior Rylee Shield added two hits and scored once as the loss drops the Lions to 6-5.
