The Lone Tree baseball team will look to capture a pivotal Southeast Iowa Superconference matchup this evening when they host the Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves in the Area Game of the Week.

The Lions are 3-6 overall and own just one victory in conference play after a non-conference win over Springville Wednesday. The win broke up a five-game losing skid. This year, the Lions hit .162 as a team, with a .314 OBP and .198 slug. They have scored 30 runs on 32 hits, five for extra bases. Individually, Brock Nebergall has five runs on nine hits, all singles, while owning a .375 average. As a pitching staff, Lone Tree has faced 284 opponent at bats and have allowed 69 runs on 58 hits, 53 earned, 38 walks, 54 punchouts, a 6.96 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and opponent average of .204. Jack Patterson’s 1.33 ERA and 0.86 WHIP lead the team.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union is 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the SEISC North after a Wednesday win at home 11-2 over Wapello to end a four-game losing streak of their own. This season, the Wolves hit .305 as a team, with a .404 OBP and .352 slug, all first in the Superconference. The individual leader is Riley Kaalberg at a .423 average, with 11 hits in 26 at bats, including three doubles, a triple and a home run. On the bump, the Wolves have allowed 57 runs on 51 hits, 33 earned, 35 walks to 44 strikeouts, a .198 opponent average, 4.71 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. Lane Genkinger has worked 15 innings and has allowed just six earned runs with 11 punchouts.

In the Varsity Bound era, Lone Tree leads the all-time series with the Wolves 23-5 dating back to 2009. Columbus/WMU has taken three out of the five most recent matchups, including the most recent game 7-5 last June.
