The latest chapter of the Lone Tree and Hillcrest Academy softball rivalry played out on the diamond Tuesday in Kalona with the Lady Lions scoring a 15-4 win. Lone Tree plated a pair in the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead, which was answered by three Hillcrest runs as the Ravens went on top 3-2. The Ravens couldn’t find a way to slow down the Lion bats, as they scored in each inning to retake the lead and build a cushion, putting up one run in each of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, a four spot in the sixth and five more in the seventh. The Ravens collected a single run in the fifth. Lone Tree out hit Hillcrest 14-5 in total. Rylee Shield and Vivian Zaruba each had three hits and knocked in a run for the Lions. Kayleigh Rundlett, Alex Dautremont, and Addison McCullough each had two hits. Harper Kuboushek and Adi Parizek each drove in two. It was Abby Zaruba’s complete game win in the circle with seven hits, three earned runs, seven walks and 10 strikeouts.
The Ravens had one hit each from Malia Yoder, Delaney Shaw, Ella Mize, Adrianne Blauvelt and Stavia Miller. Mize had an RBI and Shaw scored twice. Yoder and Mize combined on seven innings thrown, giving up 14 hits, six earned runs, five walks and 10 strikeouts. Lone Tree is 6-4 after the win, Hillcrest is 3-7.
