The Keota Eagles’ baseball team (1-5, 2-5) will hit the road to take on their South Iowa Cedar conference rivals, the English Valleys Bears (0-7, 0-7).

The Eagles are currently on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling 10-1 to conference rivals Sigourney on Monday night.

Despite early season struggles as a team, the Eagles have seen flashes from several young players. Offensively, freshman Blake Baker has done most of the damage for the Eagles so far in 2025, hitting .550 on 11 hits with nine runs and seven RBIs.

On the mound, sophomore Brennan McGuire has been far and away the ace for Keota, throwing a 1.20 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP in 11.2 innings of work.

Keota head coach Austin Waterhouse praised his pitchers’ ability to fill the strike zone, “They threw a lot of strikes, which I try to preach, throw a lot of strikes and make their hitters hit the ball.”

The Bears have started the season winless once again and are on the  hunt for their first win since 2022, when English Valleys went 3-17.

Keota will look to keep a 7-game winning streak over the Bears alive Wednesday night. The series has gone in waves for both squads, with the shortest winning streak since 2009 sitting at 4 games by English Valleys from June of 2019 to May of 2021.
