
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team will try to bounce back tonight when they travel to Solon for a non-conference contest with the Spartans. The Hawks are 9-3 on the season and 5-3 in the River Valley Conference after being swept by West Liberty in Wellman Monday. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 9 in Class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. This year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .296 as a team with a .427OBP and .418 slug, scoring 97 runs on 97 hits with 80RBI, 62 walks and 71 strikeouts. Individually, three Hawks are at .300 or better, led by Brooks Weber’s .447 with 17 hits and 14 runs scored. Tatem Telfer has a team best 13RBI. Golden Hawk pitchers have a combined 2.59ERA with a 1.27WHIP on a .176 opponent average with 52 hits, 30 earned runs, 51 walks and 110 strikeouts. Brady and Brooks Weber and Telfer are a combined 9-1 with a 1.45ERA.
Solon is 7-7 this year, 4-4 in the WAMAC. They were swept by Marion in a Monday doubleheader. This year the Spartans are hitting .260 as a club with a .363OBP and .310 slug, scoring 66 runs on 78 hits with 50 drive in, 50 walks and 78 strikeouts. Individually, five Spartans are at .300 or better, led by Maddox Kelley at .400 with 16 hits, 13 runs scored and nine driven in. On the mound, the Spartan staff ERA is 4.17 with a 1.53WHIP and .235 opponent average on 103 hits, 54 earned runs, 36 walks and 71 strikeouts. Tate Miller is 2-0 with no earned runs allowed in 13 innings. These two teams have split their last four meetings with Solon winning 4-0 in Wellman last year.
