City of Washington Water, Sewer, and Solid Waste rates were discussed at the most recent City Council meeting.

In drafting the fiscal year 2026 budget, rate increases were proposed for water, sewer, and solid waste collection rates. According to City code, rates must be approved by ordinance. City Administrator Joe Gaa gave more background on the increases, “This is done every year at the same time. Rates are pretty minimal this year. So the water rate is 5% to the usage rate, a 2% meter maintenance fee that is added to the base rate, for sewer its a 5% to the usage rate as well, and then 3% on solid waste. ”

The Council approved the rate increases unanimously. The first reading of the ordinance was approved at the May 20th Council meeting and a public hearing was set for June 3rd. A third reading is planned for the June 17th Council meeting and the rates will go into effect on July 1st.
