It was a team effort for the No. 2 in Class 1A Sigourney Savage baseball team as they defeated their conference rivals from Keota 10-1 to stay unbeaten in a game heard live on the KCII3 Stream.
After trading runs in the first frame, the Savages would jump on top in their half of the second after a throw from Eagle third baseman Billie Kindred went awry, scoring sophomore Lincoln Power. With no Keota response in the bottom half, Sigourney would feast on their largest output of the evening in the third, plating five more runs to move their advantage to six runs. After a scoreless fourth, the Savages would plate a run in every remaining inning to bolster their lead and advance to 9-0 on the season.
Unofficially, Sigourney scored 10 runs on 12 hits and had no errors. Keota scored one run on five hits and committed three errors. Every Sigourney batter recorded at least one hit, led by Brady Clark’s 2/4 night with two singles and two RBI. Cole McKay and Chase Clarahan combined for two doubles and three RBI. Clarahan took the win on the mound, going five-and-a-third, allowing one earned run on five hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. Clarahan joined KCII Sports postgame to talk about the strong team performance in the win.
“It felt really good to come out and just throw strikes. That’s all I needed to do,” Clarahan said. “It feels good to know that I just can do my job pitching and they can just score the runs for me, help me out a little bit.”
Ashton Galindo led the way in the loss for Keota, going 2/4 with a single and a double. Blake Baker took the loss on the bump, going three innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, two earned, three walks and two punchouts.
Sigourney will gear up for a road matchup with Belle Plaine this evening while the Eagles drop to 2-4 ahead of a Wednesday matchup in North English against the Bears of English Valleys. You can hear the Eagles take on the Bears in the Area Game of the Week starting with pregame show coverage at 4:30 on the KCII3 Stream. Before that matchup, the Area Game of the Week slate heads back to the Southeast Iowa Superconference with a baseball battle between the Hillcrest Academy Ravens and the Lone Tree Lions tonight in Kalona.
