The Washington Demons face another longtime rival in conference baseball tonight when they travel to take on Fairfield for a doubleheader that you can hear on KCII.
Washington was a winner last time out, defeating Lone Tree 17-0 on Friday night, but dropping their first three Southeast Conference contests of the season last week means the Demons are 2-5 overall.
Senior Nate Edmonds and freshman Mitchell Zieglowsky have been consistent threats at the top of the order for the Washington lineup with a team-high seven hits each, while senior Conner Leyden has also swung the bat well with a .375 average, two doubles and a team-best six runs scored.
Zieglowsky, eighth-grader Julian Parsons and sophomores Blayze Richardson and Ethan Peebler have also been steady for the Demon pitching staff, allowing a combined earned-run average of 3.00 and collecting 28 strikeouts in just over 30 innings of work.
Washington is taking on a Fairfield team that is the defending Southeast Conference champions, and after going 22-12 overall a year ago, the Trojans have started conference play a perfect 3-0 and are 6-4 in total so far this season.
One of the best lineups in the conference continues to produce, as seniors Cason Miller and Luke Konczal and juniors Aiden Westercamp and Dain Burkhart lead a Fairfield team with a combined .339 batting average and already over 100 runs scored.
The Trojans took two of three from the Demons last season, but seven of the last nine games between the two teams have been decided by one run.
