Washington Demon softball rolled to its seventh straight win last night by taking down rival Mount Pleasant 9-0. Five runs in the first inning put Washington in control from the jump of a game they ended after five frames.
The victory raises the Demons’ record to 3-0 in the Southeast Conference and 7-1 overall. Washington will now play in the Iowa City West Classic today and tomorrow at the University of Iowa Softball Complex, starting with games this afternoon and evening against Cedar Rapids Prairie and Davenport West.
Demon baseball would not have the same fortune, falling to Mount Pleasant 9-3. Washington started fast with two runs in the first inning and one in the second, but a four-run fourth put the Panthers in front for good.
Nate Edmonds had two hits and a run scored in the lead-off spot for the Demon lineup, while fellow senior Conner Leyden drove in a run on a double. Washington drops to 0-3 in conference play and will try to improve on a 1-5 overall mark as they take on the Lone Tree Lions later tonight.
