
Two firearms were found on Washington School District property days after being left there.
According to Washington Police Chief Jim Lester, on May 30th at 7:30 p.m. authorities received a report from a citizen who had found two handguns under a tree near the Washington High School baseball field. At that time, officers responded and recovered the handguns and determined that neither contained ammunition and did not pose immediate danger.
The Washington Community School District has cooperated with the Police Department during this investigation. It was shown on the school’s video surveillance system that the firearms were left on the property on May 22nd. The last day of classes for the district was May 23rd.
Chief Lester states the investigation is ongoing, and an arrest is imminent.
