A Kalona man arrested on felony arson charges will have a plea hearing next week. According to court records, Reuven Miller intends to plead guilty to a Class C felony at a hearing scheduled for June 13th in the Washington County Courthouse.
Miller was arrested in January and charged with arson in the first degree, a Class B felony, and harassment in the first degree, an aggravated misdemeanor. Court records outline that on January 28th, Miller allegedly claimed to law enforcement that he had a bomb in a Kalona house and attempted to light it on fire with the intent of burning down the house with a family member inside the house. He had put two boxes of 36 each Black Cat M-150 fireworks side by side and lit the cardboard boxes. Nine of the fireworks exploded according to law enforcement but did not catch the house on fire.
