The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams welcome the West Branch Bears to Wellman and Kalona tonight to finish their River Valley Conference weekly series. The Golden Hawk boys are 7-1 on the year and 4-1 in the River Valley, winners of five straight, after sweeping the Bears Monday on the road by a combined 28-3 score. The Hawks are ranked No. 12 in the latest IAbaseball poll and No. 13 by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association in Class 2A. The Golden Hawks are hitting .310 as a team with a .436OBP and .424 slug, scoring 65 runs on 65 hits with 50RBI, 38 walks and 49 strikeouts. Three Hawks are at .400 or better, led by Jason Heitman’s .462 on a team best 12 hits. Brooks Weber, Tatem Telfer and Conner Wiles have all scored nine times, Weber has a team best eight RBI. On the mound, the Mid-Prairie team ERA is 1.62 with a 1.10WHIP on a .143 opponent average with 26 hits, 12 earned runs, 31 walks and 76 strikeouts. Brady Weber, Brooks Weber and Telfer are a combined 7-0 with a one ERA.

West Branch is 1-8 this year, 0-7 in the RVC. They have dropped four-in-a-row including that sweep by the Hawks last time out. The Bears are hitting .189 collectively with a .321OBP and .244 slug with 25 runs on 38 hits, 18RBI, 35 walks and 88 strikeouts. Garrett Sotzen leads at .370 with 10 hits and six RBI. On the mound, West Branch has a staff ERA of 6.83 with a 2.23WHIP on a .237 opponent average, 70 hits, 52 earned runs, 49 walks and 52 strikeouts. Sotzen has the lone win and a 5.13ERA. The Hawks have beaten the Bears nine times in a row and 33 of the last 43 times they have met.

In the girls contest, the Golden Hawks are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference after scoring a 12-3 win at West Branch Monday. This year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .400 as a team with a .483OBP and .507 slug with 28 runs on 30 hits, 24RBI, 12 walks and 11 strikeouts. Individually, four Hawks are at .500 or better at the plate with Sophie Miller and Kyla Karnes each at .600. Sophia Puttman has five hits with a .500 mark, Miller and Puttmann have scored five runs and Kadence Grout has five RBI. In the circle, Grout, Alena Snider and Naomi Wadsworth have compiled an 11.27ERA with a 3.15WHIP, and .375 opponent average on 24 hits, 22 earned runs, 19 walks and 16 strikeouts. Grout has the recorded pitching win.

West Branch is 1-3 on the year and winless in conference after they dropped the game to the Hawks at home Monday. The Bears are hitting .272 as a group with a .303OBP and .320 slug, scoring 12 runs on 28 hits with eight RBI, five walks and 27 strikeouts. Individually, four players are at .400 or better, led by Lander Malloy’s .727 with eight hits. Sulli Bucknell is at .500 with three runs scored and Karly Shelton and Julia Laing have driven in two. In the circle, Malloy, Emalyn Poe and Tori Vikel have a combined 5.18ERA with a 2.22 WHIP to go with a .245 average on 35 hits, 19 earned runs, 22 walks and 16 strikeouts. Malloy has the lone win.
