The Sigourney Savages kept up their perfect start to the baseball season last night by rolling past Iowa Valley 13-3. After being tied through one inning and taking a 2-1 lead in the second, Sigourney exploded for six runs in the third and five in the fourth.
The Savages, ranked fourth in the state in Class 1A, ended the game after five innings to improve to 5-0, with their next game against Davis County later this evening.
Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus baseball did not have the same luck, falling 11-0 at Van Buren County. Four runs in the second and five in the fourth meant the Wolves had too deep a deficit to climb out of before the game ended after five frames. The loss drops WMU/Columbus to 1-4 ahead of facing Wapello tonight.
