The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team used their bats to earn the first win of the season, 12-11, at Mount Pleasant Friday. The Hawks scored in five of the seven frames. Trailing 1-0, they put up four in the top of the second to take a lead, the Panthers answered with four in the bottom half to go back up 5-4. Two more for the Hawks in the third put them on top 6-5, only to see another Mount Pleasant four spot in the bottom and Mid-Prairie was down 9-6 after three. Three Golden Hawk runs in the fourth, another in the fifth and two more in the sixth gave them a 12-9 cushion, and the Panther’s final inning rally came up one short as they scored twice.

Mid-Prairie out hit the Panthers 17-11 on the night and drew three walks. Nine Hawks had a hit, five had multi-hit nights. Elise Foster, Sophie Miller, and Sophia Puttmann each finished with three knocks. Foster drove in three, Puttmann two and Miller one. It was a two-hit night for Tori Smith and Macie Ihrig. Claire Trimpe, Kadence Grout, Miller, Jersey Jergens and Izzy Kite had one RBI each. Grout got the win in the circle, going four and two thirds, allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and striking out four. Naomi Wadsworth got the final seven outs out of the pen. The win moved Mid-Prairie 1-1 on the year as the Panthers drop to 0-3.
