Iowa’s corn is six days ahead of last year and two days ahead of normal according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In southeast Iowa, 95-percent of corn has been planted and 79-percent has emerged. Meanwhile, soybeans are two weeks ahead of last year and eight days ahead of the five-year average. In southeast Iowa, 93-percent of soybeans have been planted and 67-percent have emerged.

Statewide at this time corn is rated at 21-percent excellent, 62-percent good, and 15-percent fair. Soybeans are along similar lines rated at 16-percent excellent, 64-percent good, and 17-percent fair. 

The first cutting of alfalfa hay across the state is 40-percent complete. Hay conditions are rated at 85-percent good to excellent, and pasture condition is rated 68-percent good to excellent.
