The Mid-Prairie baseball program will honor longtime Golden Hawk supporter Dave Tornow.

Tornow, who was a member of Mid-Prairie’s Athletic Booster Club and a fixture at Golden Hawk activities, passed away on New Year’s Eve. Tornow was also known for making personalized signs for Mid-Prairie students who achieved accomplishments like qualifying for state competitions.

Tornow will have a memorial sign placed above the clubhouse door on the press box ahead of Friday night’s game against Williamsburg. The memorial was approved by the Mid-Prairie School Board at its meeting on May 12. Superintendent Brian Stone said that while there was no formal process for designating a memorial within the district, he felt they should look at formalizing that process later and approve Tornow’s memorial regardless. The board agreed, approving it unanimously.

The ceremony is ahead of Friday night’s first pitch. KCII will broadcast the game on 102.5 FM and AM 1380, with the pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. and first pitch at 7 p.m.
