
Two old rivals got together on the softball diamond in Winfield Tuesday night. When the dust cleared the Winfield-Mt. Union/New London Tigers had collected a 17-2 victory over the WACO Warriors in just three and a half innings. The Tigers batted around in all three frames, sending 10 to the plate in the first and second innings and nine more in the third, plating six each in the first and second and five more in the third. Eight of the nine hitters in the WMU/New London lineup scored a run, six of them multiple runs, eight of the nine had a hit, and six of the nine an RBI. Quin Smith and Ruby Myers led the way, combining for four hits, six RBI and five runs scored. Kellee Milks, and Lillie Gallup also had multi-hit nights, Gallup and Morgan Jones each drove in two and Katie Miller and Jones each scored three times. Kylea Schwenker went three frames in the circle, giving up one hit, one unearned run, walking three and striking out five in the win.
WACO had a hit and an RBI each from Mei Liechty and Madelyn Farmer. Lunsford and Farmer each scored a run. Drew Graber got the start for the Warrior pitching staff that surrendered 11 hits, 17 runs, 12 earned, with seven walks and a strikeout on the night. With the win, WMU/New London is now 1-1 on the year with a trip to West Burlington tonight. The Warriors are 0-2 and travel to Columbus tonight in a game that can be heard on KCII.
