
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams are slated for River Valley Conference action in Tipton tonight against the Tigers. Mid-Prairie baseball is 3-1 on the season, 1-1 in league play after a split with Tipton in Wellman Monday, where the Tigers took game one 3-2 before the Hawks bounced back for a nightcap win 3-1. On the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .226 as a team with a. 374OBP and .280 slug, scoring 17 runs on 21 hits, 14RBI, 18 walks and 28 strikeouts. Four Hawks are hitting .300 or better, led by Jason Heitman at .417, including five total hits. Conner Wiles has a team best five driven in and Heitman, Gentry Bontrager and Blake Swart have all scored three times. On the mound, Mid-Prairie has a 0.78 team ERA with a WHIP under one. Opponents hit .100 against them with nine hits, three earned runs, nine walks and 38 strikeouts. Brady and Brooks Weber and Tatem Telfer are a combined 3-0 with a 0.51ERA.
Tipton is 3-1 on the year and 3-2 in the conference after their Monday split at Mid-Prairie. The Tigers have a .122 team average with a .255OBP and .165 slug, scoring 18 runs on 14 hits, 13 RBI, 19 walks and 37 strikeouts. One in the lineup hits over .300 with Jacob Langley at .333 and a team best five hits. Garret Fitch has driven in four, Jacob Boedeker has scored five times. On the mound, the team ERA is 3.97 with a WHIP of 1.60 on a .181 opponent average, 27 hits, 17 earned runs, 21 walks and 36 strikeouts. Jett Kamberling is 1-0 with a 1.91ERA. Mid-Prairie has won eight of the last nine in the series.
The Golden Hawk softball team is 0-1 on the year after dropping a wild 17-16 game at Keokuk Tuesday. Mid-Prairie was 7-24 a season ago, 5-13, sixth in the River Valley Conference South Division. The Golden Hawks hit .277 as a team with a .364OBP and .358 slug with 163 runs scored on 221 hits, 132RBI, 76 walks and 136 strikeouts. They had a team ERA of 5.71 with a WHIP of two, and .353 opponent average on 310 hits, 153 earned runs 72 walks and 72 strikeouts. The Golden Hawks had three All-River Valley selections last year with one returning. Catcher Sophie Miller is back after a sophomore season with a .329 average, .412OBP, 23 total hits, 21 RBI and runs scored. The Hawks do have to replace team leaders Dakota Mitchell with her .404 average, .518OBP, 36 hits and 35 runs and Gabi Robertson with a .300 average, 27 hits, 13 runs and 11 driven in. Kadence Grout is back in the circle after a 6-16 year in 126 innings with a 5.15 ERA.
Tipton was on the wrong end of a 10-1 score against Clinton their first time out Tuesday. The Tigers were 4-20 overall last year and 1-16 in conference. The Tigers hit .281 as a group with a .361OBP and .383 slug, scoring 77 runs on 131 hits, 61RBI, 52 walks and 132 strikeouts. Jada Schmidt was .418 at the plate with 23 hits, 15 runs scored and eight RBI. They will need to replace RBI leader Madison Burmeister who drove in 14. In the circle, the Tigers had an 11.62ERA with opponents hitting .357 on 254 total hits, 182 earned runs, 89 walks and 31 strikeouts. Top pitcher Madison Meier is gone after a 4-11 season with an 8.32ERA, leader back is Braxlyn Ehlers after an eighth grade year with an ERA above 25. Mid-Prairie has won 22 of the last 26 over the Tigers including a three game sweep last year by a combined 54-8 score.
