A $3.5 million grant has been awarded to build a field house for the Washington Community School District. The grant was the largest given at the Washington County Riverboat Foundation Spring grant awards on May 21st.

An anonymous donor gave $4 million to the district’s athletic booster club earlier this year for this project. The grant brings the project’s fundraising total up to nearly $7.65 million, when grouped with the initial $4 million gift, a handful of private donations, and a $30,000 commitment from the Washington Betterment Foundation.

The total price of the project is estimated between $9 and $10 million. Construction would begin tentatively in spring of 2027, if the funds are secured. Conceptual plans for the field house proposed layouts featuring a 60-yard indoor football turf, eight 45-meter sprinting lanes, a 3,200 square-foot weight room and a golf simulator room, among other amenities.
