
The latest chapter of the Winfield-Mt. Union/WACO rivalry will be written on the softball diamond tonight when the WMU/New Londoners host the Warriors in Winfield. The Tigers are 0-1 this year after a 9-2 loss to Mediapolis on opening night Tuesday. A season ago, New London was 2-19 overall, the Lady Wolves from WMU were 6-20. They hit .169 as a group with a .266OBP and .184 slug, scoring 51 runs on 70 hits, 32 RBI, 44 walks and 91 strikeouts. Megan Lee led the way at .341 with 15 total hits. They will have to replace Sophie Malott who graduated with her team-leading 11 RBI. In the circle, the staff ERA was 12.34 with a .322 opponent average on 164 hits, 141 earned runs, 42 walks and 47 strikeouts with Lee leading there at a 1-8 record and 10.87 ERA.
WACO is also 0-1 after dropping a 10-0 game to Highland in Wayland Tuesday to start the year. They were no-hit by Larissa Murphy with Madelyn Farmer, Drew Graber and Shanea Riley all drawing a walk. Savannah Harris got the start, throwing four innings, giving up 10 runs, eight earned, six hits, 10 walks and a strikeout. Last year, the Warriors were winless at 0-17 overall, hitting .206 as a group with a .288OBP, and .279 slug with 32 runs on 48 hits, 19 driven in, 22 walks and 98 strikeouts. WACO returns their full lineup including three players that hit over .300, Madison Miller, Lizzy Gerot and Natalie Wagler. In the circle last year, the Warrior staff had a 7.09 ERA and 4.31 WHIP, .295 opponent average 123 hits, 55 earned runs, 111 walks and 34 strikeouts, led by Rhiannon Horn with a 3.12ERA in 33 frames. The Warriors have won 10 of the 15 meetings since 2009.
