The Sigourney Savages swept a baseball doubleheader Thursday night at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Sigourney raced out in front in Game One with a five-run first inning, and an already impressive lead ballooned even more with six runs in the fifth as the Savages ended the game early with a 16-2 victory.

Senior Caden Clarahan led the way for Sigourney. In addition to collecting a home run, two total hits and five runs batted in at the plate, the starting pitcher allowed no hits over the first three innings.

Sophomore Lincoln Power stroked a double and had three runs scored and two RBI for the Savages, while senior Brady Clark also scored three times and sophomore Carson O’Rourke finished with two hits and two driven in. Junior Solon Yates added a double as part of two total knocks, one run scored and one batted in.

It took a little longer in Game Two for Sigourney to establish control, but a five-run explosion in the fourth inning put them up 10-2 on their way to winning 12-3.

Clarahan had another three hits, including a double, and scored twice, while Yates and freshman Hunter Sellers each collected a pair of RBI. Seniors Cole McKay and Isaac Bruns and sophomores Ike Molyneux and Chase Clarahan all scored two runs a piece, while McKay, Bruns and Chase Clarahan had three stolen bases each.

The combination of Yates, Sellers and freshman Jordan Tremmel allowed only one earned run on seven hits and four walks in seven innings pitched as the Savages begin the new season 3-0. Sigourney next plays Tuesday against conference rival English Valleys
