As spring makes way for summer, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is encouraging people to admire wildflowers in the state. The final Woodland Wildflowers Report of the season was released this week. In southern Iowa, people can spot mayapples, wild geraniums, and Virginia waterleaf. In addition, some black cherry trees are in bloom and dogwood shrubs just started blooming.
Outdoor visitors are reminded to pick up litter. The Iowa DNR provides free reusable litter cleanup bags. They are quick-drying mesh bags. Nearby pick-up sites include the Johnson County Conservation Recreation Center at Kent Park and the Henry County Conservation Board in Mt. Pleasant.
