Three local soccer teams had their seasons come to a close Tuesday night in first-round substate playoff matches. That includes the Highland Huskies, who fell at home to Grand View Christian by a final score of 2-1 in Class 1A Substate 6.

Highland trailed 1-0 at halftime, and while sophomore Jose Ramirez got them on the board in the second half with his 11th goal of the season, Grand View managed to strike again and deny the Huskies another equalizer. Senior goalkeeper Ayden Havel made 11 saves for Highland, which ends the season with a record of 7-6-2.

The Huskies will lose 11 seniors to graduation, including Havel, Jared Diaz, Logan McFarland, Sage Hartely-Norman, Angel Avendano, Jaydee Macareno, Landon Bell, Hallie Hoppman, Issac Thomann, Louis Horak and Brody Miller.

The WACO Warriors would also fall in the first round in Class 1A Substate 5, losing 3-1 at Danville. The season ends for WACO with a mark of 4-10 and the Warriors now saying farewell to seniors Tanner Egli, Ella Huisenga, Joel Meyer, Keiran Luitjens and Owen Wolf.

Sigourney-Keota would drop a first-round match in Substate 5 as well, trailing 4-0 at halftime on the road at Central Lee and ultimately falling  by a final of 6-2.

Junior Gavin Khali and sophomore Liam VanVoltenburg each had goals for SK, which ends the season at 1-13 and says goodbye to seniors Landyn Greiner and Reanah Utterback.
