The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team has a chance to keep their school-record streak alive today when they take the course in West Liberty for the Class 2A Regional Finals. The Hawks are one of seven teams involved in Wednesday’s regional final hosted by the Comets. The Golden Hawks have a 45-5 overall record, finishing the regular season as River Valley Conference team runners-up, they rode that momentum into the first round of regionals, winning the team title at home Friday with an overall score of 377, edging second place Tipton by a pair of shots in Kalona, led by a third place 92 from Olivia Swartzentruber.

This season, the Golden Hawks have a 189 team average per nine and 389 average per 18, led individually by Addison English and Morgyn Bender at 46 each per nine and Bender’s 93 on 18. The Hawks are ranked No. 12 in Class 2A according to the latest poll from the Iowa Golf Coaches Association with their full varsity lineup appearing in the individual rankings, including, Bender No. 25, Swartzentruber 30, English 35, Alena Snider 78, Lilly Miller 94, and Delani Blum 126. The Golden Hawks talked with KCII Sports Friday after their first round tournament win about how to maintain success in the next round of the playoffs.

Swartzentruber said, “We have to continue to practice short game.”

Miller continued, “I would short game is something personally I definitely can improve on.”

English added, “I agree about short game. I can improve chipping and putting.”

The Hawks will be joined today by Anamosa, Jesup, No. 5 Sumner-Fredericksburg, Tipton, No. 20 West Branch and the home No. 22 Comets. There are 18 ranked golfers in today’s field. The top two teams and top six individuals advance to the 2025 State Tournament at Cedar Point Golf Course in Boone. Action starts today at noon at the West Liberty Golf Course.
