Warm temperatures have arrived and with that an update of the Woodland Wildflowers Report shows new flowers blooming in the state. In Henry and Des Moines counties, a few late spring beauty, swamp buttercup, garlic mustard, and rue anemone can be spotted. Also to be found are woodland blue phlox, small-flowered buttercup, wild geranium, yellow rocket, and more. At this time, most mayapples are going to seed and Virginia waterleaf is starting to bloom.

More prairie species are also appearing including columbine and butterweed. New blooms this week are pineapple weed, Pennsylvania bittercress, blue-eyed grass, and golden alexanders, among others. Iowans are encouraged to get outdoors this season.
