A pair of Mid-Prairie boys golfers kept their drive for state alive into the second round of the postseason. The Hawks finished fifth in the eight team field at Wednesday’s loaded Class 2A sectional tournament at Prairie City Monroe. No. 20 ranked Mid-Prairie found themselves in a tournament that featured four other ranked squads and 30 individually ranked golfers. The Golden Hawks posted a team score of 327. Pella Christian won the meet with a 295, followed by fellow qualifiers, the home PCM Mustangs second at 303 and West Branch third at 317. Grayson Gingerich and Bryce Henry were the Golden Hawk team-leaders with matching 78s, followed by Clayton Davidson 85, Denver Nelson 86, Ace Peck 87 and Hudson Ehrenfelt 91.
While the team season ends at sectionals with a 45-20 record, two Hawks remain in the hunt for the 2A state tournament. Based on their individual performances, Gingerich and Henry advance to the district tournament Monday at Bos Landen in Pella to compete for a spot at state.
