The big day has arrived, the 2025 Class 2A State Qualifier track meet for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls track teams is tonight at Monticello High School. The Hawks enter the day riding high after sweeping the team River Valley Conference championships for the first time in recent history at Tipton a week ago. For the girls, it was their fourth title in the last five years, keyed by 125 points and RVC championships from Jeorgia Evans in the 200 and long jump, Dessa Poll in discus and the 4×200 with Jovi Evans, Myli Hershberger, Hannah Rodgers and Ruby Miller. For the Mid-Prairie boys, it was their first conference title since 2018, as they racked up 122 points and won eight events including a sweep of the wheelchair 100, 200, 400 and 800s for Jayden Stafford, a 1-2 finish for Emmett Swartzentruber and Preston Yutzy in the 3200, a title for Burke Berry in shot put and wins for the 4×200 of Nolan Jergens, Kendrick Kos, Cash Brown and Ryan Henry and the distance medley with Kaden Kos, Henry, Brown and Jace Yoder.
The Golden Hawks will be joined tonight by Anamosa, Camanche, Cascade, Durant, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, Northeast Goose Lake, Tipton, West Liberty, Wilton and the home Panthers. First and second place finishers in each event auto-qualify for the state meet in Des Moines, with performance qualifiers decided once results are final. Action starts at 4:45p.m. And continues into the evening at Dean Nelson Field in Monticello.
