The Washington Demons have put together another excellent boys’ golf season, and now they put it all on the line when they host a Class 3A sectional tournament today at Washington Golf & Country Club.
The Demons again were one of the best teams in the area, winning all seven of their Southeast Conference meets, including a third straight league tournament team championship, extending their winning streak in conference play to 19 straight events going back to 2023.
Washington is starting a march to what they hope will be a third trip to the state tournament in the last four years, and Drew Conrad will once again be one of the key cogs in that machine.
The junior leads the Demons in scoring, including shooting the team’s low 18-hole round of 71 at the Mohawk Invitational in Moravia. It’s one of four victories and nine top-1o finishes for Conrad, who has an average 18-hole score of just over 76 strokes.
Junior Carson Brown also has one victory and six top 10s under his belt this spring, averaging a score of 84 in 18-hole competitions, while seniors Conner Leyden and Cole Vetter also earned All-Southeast Conference honors and have averages of under 90.
That includes Vetter winning the individual conference tournament title last week by shooting a career-low 72 on his home course. Washington will be hosting Mount Pleasant, Fort Madison, Solon, Burlington Notre Dame, Clear Creek Amana and West Liberty.
The Demon girls will also play today at their Southeast Conference tournament in Mount Pleasant. Sophomore Lucy Sands has been Washington’s low scorer for the season, including a team-best 18-hole round of 96.
