The Sigourney Savages and Keota Eagles competed in this year’s South Iowa Cedar League Tournament for girls’ golf last night at Oskaloosa Public Golf, and the results were strong ones.
Sigourney finished tied for second in the team standings with a combined score of 391 strokes, only seven back of the winners from North Mahaska. Freshman Ella Bruns led the Savages by shooting a 22-over-par 94 across 18 holes and was fourth overall, while senior teammate Hannah Hanselman was only one stroke behind her in fifth.
Junior Kayla Renner tied for 10th by adding a 98 for Sigourney. While Keota finished seventh as a team, senior Lainey Swanson was again terrific for the Eagles, firing a 93 that was third on the individual leaderboard and only five strokes back of the tournament’s co-champions from North Mahaska and BGM.
