The lights shine on the stars of Southeast Iowa Superconference track and field Thursday at Roth Field in Wayland when they host the annual SEISC championship meet. Six schools from the KCII listening area will bring their boys and girls teams to compete.
The Hillcrest Academy Ravens were last in action in Wayland at the Eckstrand Relays last week where the Raven girls were team runners-up with 90 points and the boys were seventh with 37. The Raven girls had event wins from Rya Scott in the 200 and Marie Yoder in the 3000. Owen Scott won long jump for the Hillcrest boys.
The Highland boys and girls hosted their Senior Night meet Monday in Riverside where they each finished sixth in the team standings with the girls scoring 57 points and the boys 36. The Highland girls got runner-up finishes from Grace Bombei in the 3000, Kamryn Fink in the 100, Mayia Singbeil in the 100 hurdles and the sprint medley team of Ava Sexton, Alexa Hahn, Lilly Barre and Fink to lead the way. The boys had second place performances from Tristan Kleopfer in the two-mile and the 4×2 team of Liam Roberts, William Dunbar, Bryce Hazelett and Cayden Day.
The Lone Tree boys and girls were at Monday’s Columbus meet. The Lady Lions won the night with 122 points, the boys were sixth with 35. Lone Tree girls winning events included Ava Christofferson in the 100, 200 and long jump, Hayden Yoder in discus, the 4×2 of Christofferson, Addison McCullough, Rylee Shield and Vivian Zaruba, the 4×400 with Shield, Zaruba, Addyson Eiben and Lindsay Baltazar, and the distance medley with Cate Sexton, Finley Jacque, Olivia Magruder and Evelyn Mueller. Brock Nebergall brought home the win for the Lone Tree boys in the 800.
The Columbus boys won their home meet Monday with a huge night of 188 points, the girls were fourth with 35 points. The ‘Cats got boys wins in the 110 hurdles and 200 with Lamar Ceant, Ty Muniz in the mile and two-mile, Riley Kaalberg in the 100, the 4×100 relay with Alexander Rees, Kaalberg, Juan Chairez and Johnathan Miranda, the 4×800 with Victor Tovar, Cade Storm, Ryan Villa and Tyson Cornielle and the shuttle hurdle with Ceant, Rees, Kaalberg and Miranda. Bella Forbes had a winning throw for the girls in shot put.
For Winfield-Mt. Union their last outing was at Eckstrand last week in Wayland where the boys were third as a team with 95 points and the girls were seventh with 45. Wins for the WMU boys included Kohlby Newsom in the 400 and 800, Cooper Buffington in shot put, and Cruz Hagmeier in the 110 hurdles. Josie Nelson was the 100 hurdles winner for the Lady Wolves and Kynlee Buffington the 100 winner.
The WACO boys and girls were last on the track Monday at Highland where they finished fifth each with the girls score 65 points and the boys 41. The Warrior girls win came in the distance medley with Natalie Wagler, Taelyn Egli, Josie Dykstra and Trinity Dean. For the boys, it was runner-up each for Isaac Rich in the 100, the sprint medley of Hayden Shelman, Rich, Gage Samo and Louden Huisenga, and the shuttle hurdle with Huisenga, Samo, Bryson Waterhouse and Layke Millspaugh.
These teams will be joined tonight by Central Lee, Danville, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, New London, Pekin, Van Buren, Wapello, and West Burlington Notre Dame. Columbus is the two-time defending boys team champion, while Pekin won the girls title last year. Action starts at 4p.m. And continues into the evening at Roth Field in Wayland.
