The Highland Huskies hosted the Hillcrest Academy Ravens Tuesday night in a Southeast Iowa Superconference soccer match in Riverside. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. The Huskies broke through first, scoring on a free kick in the game’s first 90 seconds when Jared Diaz pounded a shot to the back of the net. The score was still 1-0 Dogs at the break. Five minutes into the second half, the Ravens drew even on a rebound goal when Mason Helmuth sent in a ball that was initially turned away by keeper Ayden Havel, but the bounce found Micah Gerber for Hillcrest who tied the game at one.

Defenses controlled action over the final 35 minutes for the draw. Raven keeper Kyle Neuschwander made seven saves and the Huskie’s got six stops from Havel. Highland is now 6-4-2 this year as Hillcrest stands at 6-2-3. The Huskies host Danville tonight for Senior Night where they will honor Landon Belle, Hallie Hoppmann, Jared Diaz, Logan McFarland, Sage Hartley-Norman, Isaac Thomann, Angel Avendano, Louis Horak, Brody Miller, Ayden Havel and Jaydee Macareno. Hillcrest travels to Mediapolis Thursday.
