Intermittent exit closures are expected as construction continues along Highway 218 near Riverside and Hills.
Christy VanBuskirk, construction engineer with the Iowa Department of Transportation, said crews are currently finishing up work that has been carried over from last year due to weather delays, and that the goal is to keep ramps open during peak hours.
The southbound Hills interchange on and off ramps were closed Tuesday, with the off ramp closed for the morning rush and the on ramp closed once the morning rush was completed, and the ramps opened before the evening rush commenced.
The same process will be repeated at Riverside southbound on Thursday. VanBuskirk said the ramps will then again be closed at Hills northbound on Monday, and Riverside northbound later next week. Limited lane closures are expected to be interspersed throughout Friday on the Hills ramps.
VanBuskirk said the process will need to be repeated multiple times throughout different phases of construction.
The full project is currently expected to be completed by June 24.
