Two Louisa County men, a step-son and step-father, have court dates this summer for multiple charges after a phone was discovered in the fall hidden in a local school. Coletrane Alan Sipes has been charged with stalking a person under 18 years of age, a class C felony. Curtis Sean Canny faces 51 counts of purchase or possession of a depiction of a minor in a sex act first offense, each is a class D felony.

According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Sipes was a substitute teacher at Columbus High School. In the fall, an employee of the school district found a small box painted to blend in with a hidden cellphone and charging battery inside. It was turned over to authorities who identified the owner as Sipes and after investigation it was found that he was taking photos and videos of a specific juvenile female student both inside and outside of the school without her knowledge.

Multiple search warrants were executed on a variety of devices, including a phone belonging to Canny that was at Sipes’ residence. Authorities found explicit images of juveniles, none of which were students at the school.

Sipes filed a plea of not guilty and a jury trial has been scheduled for July 15th

Canny was charged in January with 11 counts of purchase or possession of a depiction of a minor in a sex act first offense, class D felonies. A pretrial conference on those charges is scheduled for June 2nd. In addition, following the execution of search warrants, in March he was also charged with 40 additional counts of the same offense. He pleaded not guilty. A jury trial for Canny on the 40 counts has also been scheduled for July 15th in Louisa County.
