The local non-profit organization Latinos For Washington has cancelled their annual Latino Festival for this year. Traditionally, the organization hosts a Saturday full of events in August with live music, dancing, vendors, food, contests and more.
In a letter shared by the organization, they state the reason for the cancellation is due to current circumstances. The letter highlights what the organization does for the community stating, they will “continue to support and serve the community through several initiatives, including free US citizenship classes, currently with 15 students in our spring session, scholarships for high school students, and a variety of educational workshops.” In speaking with KCII News, a board member said that the decision to cancel the festival has been emotional.
As a non-profit organization, they function solely on donations from the public. If you are interested in donating to the organization, more information can be found on their Facebook page.
