
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams came up short in a pair of River Valley Conference matches with rival Iowa City Regina Monday. The Golden Hawk girls were blanked 1-0. The Regal winner came from Morgan Miller in the 11th minute on the other end of an assist from Alison Brandt. Regina made that goal stand up over the final 69 minutes. They outshot the Hawks 17-3 and had 10 corner kicks to Mid-Prairie’s two. The Golden Hawks got two shots from Brooklyn Schneider and keeper Niva Helmuth stood on her head making an impressive 17 saves. Mid-Prairie drops to 3-7-3 after the defeat. Regina is now 6-3-2.
The Golden Hawk boys were on the wrong end of a 9-0 count against the No. 3 ranked Regals. The Hawks hung in during the first half, trailing just 2-0 at the break. Mid-Prairie was out shot 15-2 on the night and the Regals had six corners without surrendering one. Damian Vazquez and Traevin Gugel each had a shot on goal and Mac Yoder made 15 saves on the back line. Evan White led Regina with five goals. With the loss, the Hawks are now 1-10-1 this year while the Regals improve to 9-2-2. Both Mid-Prairie boys and girls teams will be back on the pitch at Northeast Goose Lake Friday.
