Demolition officially began on the former BP gas station and Hard Luck Café site along Highway1 in Kalona in preparation for a new restaurant and coffee shop. The Dutch Country Table is moving to the lot.

According to the Washington County GIS, the now-combined lot was bought in two purchases in October of 2022 and December of 2023 for a total of $402,500.

The new restaurant is set to be over 5,000 square feet and will feature a full-service kitchen, a double drive-thru lane, a coffee and tea shop, online and mobile ordering, and an indoor play area.

Construction will begin once demolition is complete. A grand opening date will be announced later, once the site is nearing completion. It is owned by Marlin and Becky Bontrager.
