After spring rains swept through Southeast Iowa last week, over half of the KCII listening area is now drought free, according to the US Drought Monitor’s weekly report.
Washington County and Johnson County were both drought-free for the second straight week, while Henry County was drought-free for the 13th straight week. Iowa County was drought-free for the first time since September 3 of last year.
Louisa County continues to see slight fluctuations in its southeastern corner, dropping to less than 1% of the county abnormally dry. Jefferson and Keokuk Counties also saw a slight decrease in drought-affected area, with Jefferson falling slightly to 21.69% abnormally dry and Keokuk falling to 44.70%.
It was the second consecutive week without land in the KCII listening area listed as “moderate drought” or worse.
