
The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves secured another team victory in a boys’ golf dual against the Lone Tree Lions yesterday at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside. WMU finished with a combined team score of 164 strokes, over 50 better than the hosts.
Justin Knipfer was the meet medalist and led Winfield-Mount Union by shooting a three-over-par round of 39. The sophomore bounced back from a triple-bogey on the first hole with birdie on the second and an eagle on the sixth to go with three other bogeys.
Sophomore Cody Milks was only stroke back of Knipfer, finishing with two eagles to make up for two triples. Junior Konner Kinneberg added a 41 for the Wolves, while juniors Max Edwards and Grant Anderson each carded a 44 and junior Nick Sparrow had a 54.
Senior Jack Patterson led Lone Tree with an eight-over 44, making eagle on the sixth and birdie on the fifth. Junior Carter Schott added a 52 for the Lions, while sophomore Owen Eden finished with a 56.
There was no team competition on the girls’ side, but Winfield-Mount Union was paced by an 11-over 47 from freshman Ashlyn Bender and got a 58 from junior Ella Kann. Sophomore Rylie Viers was the lone girls’ golfer for Lone Tree and finished with a 73.
