The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team ends their week with the 18-hole Wildcat Invitational at Durant today. The Hawks are 18-2 this year after a Monday dual win over Wilton in Kalona 191-242, where they swept the individual awards behind medalist Morgyn Bender’s 44 and runner-up Olivia Swarztentruber’s 47. This year, the Golden Hawks are shooting a 190 average on nine holes and a 383 average on 18. Individual leaders include Bender and Addison English with 45 averages on nine and Bender at 91 on 18. This week, Golden Hawk head coach Tracy McArtor talked with KCII Sports about his team’s recent play.
McArtor said, “We have been working on areas like short-game and putting where it’s easier to lose strokes. Overall, the kids as a group have been playing really well. We have not shot above 200 for nine holes this year. Continuing to do things like that this year will be a big benefit to the kids. Hopefully they can continue to keep their head in the game and put the knowledge that they have to use, especially the upperclassmen. The top four have been on the varsity squad for several years. They have won conference championships and been to the state meet multiple times. They have a ton of experience.”
Mid-Prairie will be joined today in Durant by Camanche, Cascade, Monticello, Iowa City Regina, Tipton, West Liberty, Wilton and the home Wildcats. Action starts at noon and continues all afternoon and evening at Wahkonsa Country Club in Durant.
