The Washington Demons defeated the WACO Warriors 5-3 in boys’ soccer last night. Senior Kevin Marcelino and junior Edwin Cortes scored goals to give Washington a 2-1 halftime lead, and freshman Xavi Recendez and junior Ben Kronlage would add to the lead in the second half.
WACO would keep things close, getting the margin down to one goal in the final minute. But Cortes scored once more to put away the win for the Demons. Marcelino assisted two of the goals, while sophomore Fletcher Brower also had an assist and senior goalkeeper Kaden Read made nine saves.
Senior Keiran Luitjens and juniors Niles Reichenbach and Tristan Luitjens scored the Warrior goals as they fall to 3-7. Meanwhile, Washington improves to 2-9. While the Demons play again tonight against Mount Pleasant, WACO is off until Tuesday against Sigourney-Keota.
