Area track and field teams gathered at the annual Sigourney Co-Ed Meet on Tuesday, and the Columbus Wildcats would come away with another boys’ team victory, edging out Pekin with a team score of 109 points that was just four better than the Panthers.

Lamar Ceant played a big role in Columbus continuing a perfect outdoor season of team success. The sophomore won the 200-meter dash in 22-and-a-half seconds and was the champion of the 110-meter hurdles in 15.03

Ceant also ran a leg on the shuttle hurdles relay that had a winning time of one minute one second, while senior Riley Kaalberg was the 100-meter dash champion in 11.33 seconds and the Wildcats also won the 4-by-200-meters in just over a minute-and-a-half.

Senior Ty Muniz finished second place in both the 800 and 3,200 meters for Columbus, while junior Alexander Rees was third in the 200, as was sophomore Ronaldo Villegas in the shot put and both the Wildcats’ 4-by-100 and 4-by-800 relays.

The WACO Warriors would pick up the victory in the 4-by-100, clocking in at 45.08 seconds. Junior Jude Dykstra would take third place in the 1,600 meters for WACO, as would sophomore Hayden Shelman in the long jump and the Warriors’ sprint and distance medleys.

While Winfield-Mount Union would be the runner-up in both medley relays, Cooper Buffington would be the champion of the shot put, throwing the top distance of 47 feet seven inches for the Wolves. Fellow senior Kohlby Newsom was second in the open mile, while freshman Cruz Hagmeier was third in the 110 hurdles.

On their home track, the Sigourney boys were led by a silver medal from senior Jayden Thompson in the discus toss. Freshman Hunter Sellers tied for second in the high jump, while junior Troy Klett won bronze in the two-mile, as did the Savages’ shuttle hurdles relay.

The Sigourney girls would shine bright in their home meet, finishing tied for third in team scoring. Ellie Yates would bring home gold for the Savages in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:29 while also finishing second in the 1,500.

Fellow junior Addison Yates was second in the 3,000 and third in the 1,500, while senior Josephine Moore won bronze in the shot put and the Sigourney 4-by-200 relay also took third.

Bren Graber was a winner for WACO in the 100 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 17.2 seconds, while fellow freshmen Josie Dykstra and Taelyn Egli were second in the 400 hurdles and the long jump, respectively. Graber was also third in the 400 hurdles, while the Warriors were the runners-up in the 4-by-100.

Columbus was led by a second-place finish from their 4-by-200 relay and a silver medal for Bella Forbes in the shot put. Fellow sophomore Kymila Bacon was third in the open 100, as was senior Ariana Vergara in the 100 hurdles, while junior Naveiah Garza tied for third in the high jump. The Wildcats would also claim the bronze in the 4-by-100.

Freshman Kynlee Buffington was the long jump champion by leaping 16 feet seven inches for Winfield-Mount Union, while the Wolves took second in the sprint medley. Both the boys and the girls would finish fourth in the 4-by-100 for Highland, while the Huskies also took fourth in the girls’ 4-by-200.
