The Mid-Prairie School Board approved its budget and tax levy for the 2025-2026 fiscal year at its meeting on Monday.

As previously reported by KCII, the tax levy is set to drop two cents this year to $13.08, a rate which was set after the first public budget hearing due to delays in the legislature’s approval of the state supplemental aid rate.

Mid-Prairie Business Manager Jeff Swartzentruber presented on the budget before the vote, “A lot of people say they’re going to cut the federal Department of Education and people are saying that’s going to impact us. During COVID, [revenue from the federal government] was about 8% because we had all these extra funds that we’re still reporting on to the state, but since that time, we’re down to about 3% of our budget is federal dollars. It’s still $795,000, is what we’re estimating, still a big chunk of money, but not a big percentage.”

A public hearing was also held before the vote, at which no members of the community spoke. The budget was approved unanimously.
