columbus-logo3-5

Both Columbus Wildcat soccer teams would suffer defeats Monday night at Burlington Notre Dame. The Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union girls would allow just one shot on goal all game, but sophomore Daisy Hazell made it count by scoring a first-half goal for Notre Dame that would be the match’s only tally.

After coming into the match with back-to-back wins, the Wildcats drop to 1-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 2-6 overall. The Columbus boys would get a first-half goal from freshman Angel Alvarez but would still be down by three at halftime and would end up taking a 9-1 loss to Burlington Notre Dame.

Junior keeper Leo Corona made seven saves, but the Wildcats would still fall to 3-6, including a 1-3 record in Super Conference play. The Columbus boys will next play Thursday against Hillcrest Academy, while the girls face Fairfield in their next match on Friday.
