
It’s a busy day on the sports calendar for Hillcrest Academy Raven athletics. The Hillcrest soccer team is back on the pitch when they host Wapello/Louisa-Muscatine Monday. The Ravens are 3-2-1 this season after a 1-1 draw against Danville Friday where Mason Helmuth had the tying goal, Micah Gerber the assist and Kyle Neuschwander a pair of saves. This year the Ravens have outscored their opponents 13-8 with 46 shots on goal, 30 corner kicks, 13 assists and a 75% team save percentage. Individually, Helmuth is the leader with five goals, Rowan Miller and Mason Bender each have three assists and Neuschwander has 21 total saves.
L-M/Wapello is 0-7-0 this year after a 10-0 loss to Central Lee last time out. The Indians have been outscored 61-1 this season with 14 shots on goal, one corner, one assist and a 63% team save percentage. Individually, Edgar Vazquez has the lone goal, Jack Boysen the single assist and Coy Wiley 28 saves. Hillcrest has won all 12 all-time meetings between the two schools by a combined 83-5 total score. The Raven golf teams will also compete tonight when they travel to Winfield-Mt. Union. The Hillcrest boys are 10-0 on the season after winning the Wapello Invitational at Heritage Oaks last week, led by an individual championship 73 for Liam Schrock. This season, the Raven boys have a 168 average on nine and 330 number on 18 as a team, led by Rowan Miller’s 37 on nine and Schrock’s 73 on 18. Winfield-Mt. Union is 14-2 this year. The Wolves beat New London Friday 161-202 behind co-medalist performances of 39 each for Grant Anderson and Justin Knipfer. On the season, WMU has a 166 average on nine and a 338 average on 18, led individually by Konner Kinneberg’s 41 on nine and Knipfer’s 82 on 18. Hillcrest got the win 180-197 in this matchup a season ago.
The Raven girls are still searching for their first win after finishing seventh at the Wapello tournament last week with a 506, led by Claire Withrow’s 116. On the season, the Ravens have a 265 average on nine and 506 on 18 with leaders Ava Miller at 62 on nine and Withrow at 116 on 18. Winfield-Mt. Union is 2-10 this season, falling to New London Friday 215-222 despite a 49 from Ashlyn Bender. This year, the Wolves have a 229 average on nine and 474 on 18, led by Kellee Milks and Bender both at 54 on nine and Bender’s 107 on 18. The Wolves got the narrow win in this matchup last year 252-257. Action starts tonight at 4p.m. At Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield.
